10 tips for making a baby in Brooklyn!
1. Get on a parents classified and score free stuff and half price items. Park Slope Parents has an annual membership of $50. Lots of stuff being posted for discounts or even free! Know what items you are looking for and then subscribe to their email notifications. You will get a ton of them daily to help be fast and claim items. Delete them when you are done!! Keep that in box clean ;-)
2. Don't make your hospital trip further than necessary. Sure if you have a provider you love, you can head into the city, however do not reccommend if you are do in the middle of winter to pick a city hospital as you might need to weather a snow storm! You'll get as good of care at Brooklyn (methodist is top) or elsewhere.
3. Carriers and strollers. You walk a lot! Unless you live in a walk up, then get a stroller. You WILL use it. Or else your nanny will use it. If you want to be like everyone else, you will end up getting an Uppababy.
4. Get a car seat that can be buckled with a seat belt. We got the nuna pipa and it means we don't have to be tied to any car, and can transfer easily.
5. Don't.
6. Get a doula. It's worth it. Hospitals are busy, you will be busy, your partner will be busy. Have an advocate for you.
7. Join a mommy therapy group. No matter where you are. Having support post baby is key. Can wait a few months, or jump in a month out, but have a place where it's not about just comparing babies milestones, but rather a place FOR YOURSELF is essential.
8. Make friends with your neighbors that also have kiddos. You can probably find some folks through Park Slope parents - as they have neighborhood groups. Consistency and ease is key, as planning essentially goes out the window with kiddos, and having some folks you can hang out on a whim will really keep you afloat.
9. Get OUT of the city. This is not just when you have kids, but don't forget to travel a bit. Even local weekend trips. It's important to get out and get into nature. Your environment and life has changed so much, don't forget to relax a bit.
